as i read Jane Eyre again

i reach the part where mental illness is referenced as ¡lunacy! ¡depravity ¡madness! Brontë's writing consumes me, but in doing so soothes, for no longer is mental illness defined as lunacy, depravity, madness.

a lunatic is mentally well,
just that he belongs to a minority
it's a game of numbers that set the rules.

The lunatic label is given by the majority who assumes that they are sane and benchmark themselves for the measurement of sanity. What they do not realise is that, the act itself is a measure of lunacy/insanity.

I didnt know you had posted so much after 'sound words'.. was reading the rest of it all..

I absolutely agree with Lash... Its the majority that decides what is sane... A deviation from the norm does not mean madness...

Every person is in/sane in his own way..

Jane Eyre is under a lot of scrutiny these days; you may want to read 'Wide Sargasso Sea' by Rhys who tells the story of Rochester's first wife who is labeled insane in Jane Eyre!

Hi, I found you through Sunshines blog. Jane Eyre had the same effect on me. And I wanted to know more about Bertha.

And I also highly recommend Wide Sargasso Sea, it is a very different perceptive. Jean Rhys' work is wonderful. She is one of my favorite authors.

I luv Jane Eyre. Who is she? Where does she come from. It is the ultimate story of cinderella, with a twist. The handsome prince is ... married to lunacy...

so is my handsome prince lol
